Bio
Greta K. Nagel received her doctorate in
education from San Diego State University and the Claremont
Graduate School. She was an elementary and middle school
teacher for fifteen years and an elementary school principal
for six years before taking a teaching position at California
State Polytechinic University. Dr. Nagel also studied
Eastern Religion at the School of Theology at Claremont College.
She is currently a professor of education at California
State University at Long Beach. She
lives with her family in Fullerton, California.
Published Works
Author
of three books, The Tao of Teaching, The
Tao of Parenting (Penguin), and Effective
Grouping for Literacy Instruction (Allyn & Bacon)
plus more than 30 articles or chapters in the field of literacy
and regular conference presentations (IRA, NRC, AERA).

Academic Focus
To examine
aspects of social contexts for instruction. Current
scholarly and creative activity is writing a book manuscript, When
Will We Ever Learn?: The Story of the Great New Museum
of Teaching and Learning.

Career in Teaching
After
first working at Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Nagel is now a full professor
in the Department of Teacher Education within the
College of
Education at Cal State Long Beach. Her students are
practicing teachers in urban schools whose students
come
from homes in low socioeconomic environments. She has
directed alternative certification for CSULB and
has coordinated
two tutoring projects in Long Beach and Compton using a coached,
cross-age tutoring model, assisted by a grant of $50,000
from Edison International.
